The problem
Gain is the setting everyone gets wrong. Too low and you sound thin and far away, and the listener turns you up along with your room. Too high and the peaks clip, which no amount of editing puts back. The MV7 has the knob; macOS gives you no honest way to see what it is doing.
What Mics does
A live meter runs across the top of every screen, so it is there while you change anything else. Speak normally and raise the gain until you sit in the upper green. Test plays your own voice back through your headphones at the level you are recording at, which takes four seconds and replaces guessing with knowing.
