What's the difference between a take and a note?
A take is footage you intend to use. A note is you talking to whoever edits the video: what to cut, what to keep, what the next take should do. The camera records both the same way; the button just decides which one you're making. Notes give the editor your direction in your own voice, next to the take it's about.
Does the camera stop between takes?
No. Once you're on the camera screen it records continuously, and the button switches modes. Each switch closes the current video file and opens the next one, so you still get one file per take and one per note.
Which gimbals work?
Any gimbal that supports Apple's DockKit, including the Insta360 Flow 2 Pro. Its shutter button switches between take and notes. Takes ignores the gimbal's other controls. Zoom, camera flip, and the tracking trigger keep doing whatever the gimbal does with them.
Do I need a gimbal?
No. The record button on screen does exactly what the gimbal's shutter does.
Where do the transcripts come from?
Your phone. Takes uses Apple's on-device speech recognition, so audio isn't uploaded anywhere. The first time you shoot, iOS may download a language model.
Where is my video stored?
In the app's own folder, one folder per project, visible in the Files app under On My iPhone → Takes. Each project holds a video file per take and per note, a thumbnail, a text transcript, and a session.json index of the shoot.
How do I get footage to an editor?
Share the project folder from the menu next to the project title, or share a single clip from its playback screen. Everything is plain .mov, .jpg, .txt and .json. No export step, no proprietary format.
What do the tags on a clip mean?
Takes checks each clip as it finishes and flags problems: Silent (nothing audible), Clipped audio (recorded too loud), Overexposed or Underexposed, and Short for takes under two seconds. Profanity is flagged from the transcript. They're there so post-production surprises happen while you can still reshoot.
Why did one of my notes disappear?
Notes where nothing was said are moved to the project's trash automatically, so the dead air between takes doesn't pile up. Takes are never removed this way. You can turn it off in Settings, and recover anything from Deleted clips in the project menu.
What does the framing selector change?
Only the guides. Takes always records the full sensor frame; the selector shows what a 16:9 crop, a 9:16 crop, or both would keep, so you can frame a take that works in either. Your choice is written into the video file's metadata for the editor.
Can I shoot on the back camera?
Yes. The button at the bottom left of the viewfinder flips between the front and back camera. Flipping ends the current clip and starts the next one, because the two cameras hand back different frame sizes and a video file can't change size part way through. It's a sensible cut anyway: the shot just changed.
Does it record in the background?
No. The camera runs only while the camera screen is open. Leaving the screen or backgrounding the app closes the current clip cleanly.
